The infrastructure underneath SMS-sending platforms can be quite complicated, especially when you factor in regulatory compliance. Managing that stuff so Brands don’t have to think about it, is one of the core jobs of SMS platforms.

I just read about a company called Volt that recently raised $3m to improve its reliability and reduce costs.

I honestly hadn’t heard about Volt before this fundraise announcement - they are building for software companies who need to manage multiple providers (Twilio, Sinch, etc) to send texts.

I wonder if there’s room for a similar solution for Brands to manage multiple SMS platforms. I’ve run into a few Brands that use multiple providers for different geo regions for a variety of rather esoteric reasons. But it’s not super common. WDYT?

Regardless, it’s always good to see innovation and money flowing into the SMS ecosystem.

Most brands know they need to be building email and SMS lists from website visitors. The same goes for social channels. Without owned channels like SMS brands get stuck paying for ads to drive traffic.

SMS lets you short-circuit the funnel, re-engaging the best customers and bringing them back at the right times. Really love this tweet from @maxwellcopy:

Exhibit A on why you want to OWN your audience (not just RENT it)

Until next time!
